Kansas City's top receiver Rashee Rice will miss Sunday's game against the Chargers with a right hamstring injury.
Injury / practice· Nate Taylor· Read on ESPN Chiefs (opens in a new tab)
It was thought that Rice could avoid missing time after injuring his hamstring in Week 4, but he was not ready to practice coming out of Kansas City's Week 5 bye, and he'll wind up sidelined for Sunday's contest. With Rice unavailable, Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen will be the top options at the receiver spot for Patrick Mahomes in Week 6.
Injury / practice
Coming out of the Chiefs' Week 5 bye, Rice has been a spectator for both of the team's first two practices of the week while he continues to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained in an Oct. 4 win over the Raiders. Kansas City hasn't yet closed the door on Rice suiting up Sunday against the Chargers, but he'll almost certainly need to practice in some capacity Friday to put himself on a path to play.
Injury / practice
After being forced out of the Chiefs' Oct. 4 win over the Raiders due to what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network described as a "relatively minor" hamstring injury, Rice won't be ready to return to the practice field coming out of a Week 5 bye. Per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports. com, Reid acknowledged that Rice is feeling better, but the coach wouldn't commit to the wideout practicing Thursday or Friday or playing Sunday against the Chargers. If Rice ends up being sidelined, tight end Travis Kelce would likely take on an even more prominent role in the passing game, and wideouts Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals and Cyrus Allen could also see upticks in targets.
